Ketel One is carefully crafted using a combination of Old World craft and modern techniques. The process begins with the finest European wheat, bringing smoothness, neutrality and purity to crafting Ketel One. A high starch content on the wheat makes it ideal for crafting Ketel One. After being harvested, the wheat is ground, blended with water form a mash, and then allowed to ferment. After fermentation, the mash goes through the column distillation process. This produces a fresh, ultra crisp wheat spirit. A part of the wheat spirit is re-distilled in small batch copper pot stills, including the original coal-fired Distilleerketel #1 or Pot Still Number 1. During this process the heads at the beginning of the process are too harsh, and the tails, which come at the end of distilling, are too weak. Both are discarded. Only the heart of each distillation, the middle portion is kept. These distillates are then filtered to create a Master Pot Still Blend. The Master Distiller then oversees the careful marrying of part of the Master Pot Still Blend, part of the wheat spirit, and some water to create Ketel One Vodka. A member of the Nolet family then approves each final production. The purpose of the extensive production process is to make a truly exceptional vodka, Ketel One. The purity and smoothness of Ketel One make it ideal for being enjoyed on its own, chilled or with ice. A dash of soda or tonic water will open out some of the complex, citrus and honey notes of the vodka. The crisp coolness of Ketel One is superb in the classic martini cocktail, stirred with dry vermouth. It also provides a suitably dry, lively edge to the orange liqueur and cranberry juice in a Cosmopolitan, and is a great base for the classic Bloody Mary.
